Beaufighter near Hunmanby.

During the afternoon of the 4th of January 1943 the crew of this aircraft were undertaking a training flight when the aircraft spun into the ground near Hunmanby after making a tight turn at low height. The aircraft crashed on land close to Hunmanby Hall and just before the impact it was seen to roll over and dive into the ground.

Pilot - Sgt James S Dickson RAAF, aged 20, of Albert Park, Victoria, Australia. Buried Edinburgh Eastern Cemetery.

Obs - Sgt Joseph Miles RAFVR, aged 22, of Leigh, Buried Leigh Cemetery, Lancs.

I have yet to locate the crash site.


The YAM crash database stated this incident occured "5 miles west of Scarborough", which is incorrect.
