On the 13th of February 1942 the crew of this aircraft set out from Lossiemouth for a night cross-country training flight over Northern Scotland. To the west of Inverness the aircraft suffered an engine failure followed shortly afterwards by the propeller on the engine detaching. Being unable to maintain height on one engine the crew baled out. The aircraft crashed a short time later in Glen Affric. From the impact scar left by the crash the aircraft had come in from the south.
Pilot - Sgt Clifford Handley RAF, of Pitsmoor, Sheffield. Ok. He would be killed serving in Egypt less than six months later serving with 148 Sqdn. He was 25 years old.
Rest of crew - Unknown, ok.
Myself and Will Lund located the site in August 2006, fair remains of the aircraft are still to be found on the lower slopes of Mullach Fraoch-choire.
