Jet Provost near Snainton.
Jet Provost XN643.
The Jet Provost crashed on the 30th of July 1981 near Malton Cote Farm, just north of the villages of Ebberston and Snainton.
The pilot was on a solo training flight. He ejected after the flame on the engine went out and
would not relight. He narrowly missed three farms before recovering to a glide where he then ejected. The aircraft then crashed
into a barley field but was not badly damaged considering it was pilotless, it had flatten about an acre of Mr R Sellars barley.
Two boys who were cycling up the lane nearby, they witnessed the crash and rushed to Moorsome Farm where they
alerted the police. It was thought that if the pilot had stayed with the plane he would probably have been ok.
Pilot - P/O Guy Trezona, aged 19, of Edinburgh - ejected, ok.
I have yet to locate and visit the site.
Sixteen years later a civilian registered helicopter would also crash near this same farm.
