Meteor near East (or West) Heslerton.

On the 17th of March 1952 a pupil was undertaking a training flight out of Full Sutton with an instructor when the radio failed. Details as yet are vague but it is thought that they became lost and they belly landed the aircraft in a field near East Heslerton probably after they had run low on fuel. The two airmen were uninjured. The aircraft is believed to have crash landed on West Heslerton Carr just east of Carr House Farm. An RAF Police guard was placed on the aircraft before it was removed and taken away for repair.

Mr David Wakeley (Webmaster of www.ryedale.co.uk) recounted his memories to me in 2004 of seeing this aircraft in the field in the mid-1950s. Initially this was thought to have occured around 1956. Only a small child at the time he had thought the aircraft to have been a Venom but now the assumption is that his memory was infact of this Meteor.
