Halifax damaged by FLAK (returned to East Moor airfield).
On the 15th of October 1942 this aircraft was hit by flak on a raid on Cologne. Just after leaving the target area the aircraft was
hit in a port side engine which
resulted in the return trip being made on three engines. Landing at East Moor was later made without further incident.
The aircraft was built to contract B73328/40 by Handley Page Ltd at Radlett and delivered directly to 158 Sqdn at East Moor
during the last week of September 1942. It suffered Cat. A(c)/FB in the incident detailed above on the aircrafts 3rd Op. It was repaired
on site by 23rd October 1942 and moved with unit to Rufforth on 6th November 1942 but was now coded "NP-T". It was written off as
Cat. E/FB on 16th November 1942 when on return from Ops to Genova ran short of fuel and tried to land at Gatwick but crashed
at Cuckfield, Sussex, with 4 of the 7 crew being injured.
