Luftwaffe Roll Call.

Below is a brief list of those German airmen who lost their lives as a result of aircaft crashes in the Ryedale area during the Second World War.


28th April 1942 - Do217 U5+KP - Coneysthorpe.

WOp - Uffz Fritz Kalber, aged 22, of ? Buried Cannock Chase Cemetery, Staffs. Died of injuries sustained.

It is thought that he was initially buried at Malton Cemetery.


27th October 1940 - Ju88 5J+ER - Duggleby.

Gunner - Uffz Oskar Piontek, aged ? Of ? Buried Cannock Chase Cemetery, Staffs. Died of injuries sustained.

Technically not a Ryedale crash but close engough to be included, it is thought that he was initially buried at Driffield Cemetery.


3rd February 1943 - Do217 U5+GL - Muston.

Pilot - Obfr Karl Muller, Missing.

Observer - Fw Heinz Lewald, Missing.

Wireless Operator - Uffz Friedrich Fruth, Missing.

Gunner - Uffz Heinrich Wilmsen, Missing.
