Halifax near Wombleton airfield.
Not much is yet known about this incident, at around 7PM one February night during the War, the lights in many houses in Harome went out due to a power cut.
It transpired that a bomber (presumably a Halifax) was taking off from Wombleton, it failed to gain height quickly enough
and was so low that the rear
wheel caught on the electric supply wire near the council houses in Harome. The aircraft did not crash but kept going along with
three pole-lengths of
wire trailing behind and after a circuit or two landed safely. The crew apparently had quite a shock because they hadn't
realised anything had happened.
Crew - unknown.
Does anyone have any more information please ?
