Halifax at Wombleton airfield.
On the 27th of November 1944 the Halifax was landing in bad weather and it missed the runway!
On touching down, it slewwed sideways onto a dispersal pan damaging the aircraft, the crew escaped injury.

F/Eng - Sgt Walter Alfred James Thurston, of ? Ok.
Nav - F/O Isaac Buck Zierler RCAF, of Sarnia, Canada. Ok.
BA - F/O William Gordon McLeod RCAF, of Port Arthur, Ontario, Canada. Ok. He was 30 when he was killed.
W Op / AG - P/O Joseph Michael Hirak RCAF, of Elphinstone, Manitoba, Canada. Ok. He was 23 when he was killed.
A/G - P/O Francis Gerald Seeley RCAF, of Trenton, Canada. Ok.

The above crew were all to be killed on the 10th of April 1945 when their 433 Sqdn Lancaster crashed in Germany
after being hit by flak on Ops to Leipzig. According to witnesses, this Lancaster was hit by flak, the starboard inner engine
was seen to be feathered at the time. A small explosion was seen, the aircraft flipped onto its back and spiralled to the ground.
