Bomber near Scarborough.
On this date an allied aircraft suffered engine problems outbound, bombs were dropped in the sea off Scarborough, after which the aircraft turned in land, the crew bailed out with the exception of the pilot who force landed the aircraft somewhere on land near the town.
As yet I have no further details on this incident.
On this date Halifax B.I Srs.1 L9511 was struck off charge on this date, but no reason appears to be given.
Much of the information surrounding this aircraft in books I'm told by Graham Sharpe is incorrect. Both the Halifax File
and the 'L' Serials book state it was with 1652 CU but this unit did not exist at this time. Graham also has a report of it
being on charge with 35 Sqdn when it struck the R/T Control trailer on landing at Mildenhall on 11th January 1942,
though it is not listed in Bill Chorley's books. It could be the aircraft which made a landing at Scarborough.
