Hind near Cayton Bay.
On the 13th of June 1937 and at 08.20hrs at Hawker Hind left Turnhouse, Edinburgh with the intension of flying to London.
A known route for such flights was made by simply following the coastline. Good progress
was made but over the Yorkshire Coast in the Scarborough area the crew ran into thick fog. The pilot attempted a
forced landing in a field near Cayton Bay at the top of some cliffs but this did not go fully to plan, the aircraft suffered engine failure
whilst making an approach to land, the aircraft stalled and crashed damaging the wings and under-carriage and the propeller
was broken. The damage was severe enough for it to be written off.

The aircraft was built to Contract 404654/35 by Hawker at Kingston upon Thames and delivered to 2 ASU at Cardington
on 23rd June 1936. It was issued to 83 Sqdn at Turnhouse on 31st July 1936. After the crash near Scarborough it was dismantled on
site and taken away for assessment before being struck off charge on 5th August 1937 with a total of 180 hrs, 10 min flying time.
