Eagle 2 at RAF Clifton.
The Eagle was damaged at Clifton airfield on the 24th of November 1941 when the tail wheel collapsed on landing. There were no injuries reported,
the damage to the aircraft was Cat R(b)/FA - meaning repairable.
Built by The British Aircraft Manufacturing Co. at Hanworth and given the serial no. 133.
The aircraft was first registered on 15th April 1936 as G-AEFZ to Sir Alasdair W MacRobert at Brooklands and Dyce. The CofA was
issued on 28th April 1936. On 6th August 1938 it was sold to John H A Rabone, at Minster Lovell / Hendon. Following the outbreak of War its CofA
lapsed on 29th October 1940. The civilian registration was cancelled on 21st April 1941. It was impressed into the RAF on 30th June 1941
as ES944 and issued to Wattisham Station Flight for use for communications duties, it was later transferred to Northolt on 17th October 1941 and
probably used as a station flight aircraft. Following the incident at Clifton it was repaired at Field Consolidated, at Tollerton on 4th
December 1941 and was returned to Northolt on 6th February 1942. Ten days later it was sent to 5 MU and then issued to 18 Group
Comm Flt at Leuchars on 6th March 1942, the undercarriage collapsed on take off from Turnhouse
on 29th May 1943, it was deemed unrepairable and struck off charge on 27th July 1943.
