Halifax at RAF Wombleton.
The Halifax swung on landing, the pilot over corrected this and went the other way, the under carriage collapsed damaging nose and wing sections.
The aircraft was built to contract B982938/39 by E.E.C. Ltd at Salmesbury and delivered as new to 77 Sqdn at Elvington during the
first week of November 1942. Later in the month it transferred to 51 Sqdn at Snaith when the unit converted from Whitley V's. It
transferred to 1666 HCU at Dalton on 5th June 1943 when the unit formed and moved with the unit to Wombleton on 5th November 1943. It suffered
Cat. A(c)/FA on 10th December 1943 in a landing accident (detailed on this website) and was soon repaired on site and returned to service. It
was written off as a result of the damage sustained in the incident detailed above.
