Wellington at East Moor.

On the 27th of April 1943 the crew of this Wellington were taking off for a non-operational flight when it was damaged at 11.43hrs. The exact reasons are not yet known. Damage was only reported as Cat A/FA.

The aircraft was built to contract 92439/40 by Vickers Armstrong's at Blackpool and delivered to an unspecified MU in September 1942 for acceptance. It was issued to 466 Sqdn at Driffield on 15th October 1942 when the unit formed but only used in the training role. It was transferred to 429 Sqdn at East Moor on 25th November 1942 and was one of the first four aircraft to be on charge with the unit. The aircraft carried out 6 Ops before Wellington B.III's had been phased off Ops. when the aircraft suffered it's Cat. A/FA on 27th April 1943. It is believed to have been repaired on site and immediately transferred to 26 OTU at Wing after repair. It later served with 14 OTU at Market Harborough before finally moving to 29 OTU at Bruntingthorpe. When 29 OTU disbanded on 27th May 1945 the aircraft was flown to MU storage where it remained until struck off charge on 12th May 1947.
