At an, as yet, unknown date during the War at Halifax was undergoing a fuel test when it caught fire whilst in the hanger at the Handley Page Civilian Repair Depot (YARD). The fire destroyed nine Halifax's undergoing repair as well as gutting three hangers. Another Halifax was dragged clear by a small tractor. There were several injuries. The site is where the modern day grain store is sited in the Water Lane side of the old airfield.
Can anyone help with supplying a date for this incident, i suspect that the York newspaper would have carried a story about it which I would like to look up.
