At around 17.20 hrs on the 10th of August 2003 a civil aircraft was taking off from Bagby Airstrip near Thirsk when he had sengine trouble, He was forced to make an emergency landing in a field near the airstrip damaging the aircraft slightly. The pilot, who was from Billingham, sustained minor injuries.
