Piper Aztec at Thirkleby Hall.

At 12.40hrs on the 29th of June 2006 this twin engined aircraft crashed soon after take-off from Bagby airstrip killing the pilot. At present it is thought that the pilot was trying to return to Bagby after noticing a fault. The aircraft crashed into a field close to the A19.

A corroded fuel pipe which in turn triggered a fuel blockage was later found to have caused the crash.

Pilot - Mr Frank Walker, aged 64, of Silsden, West Yorkshire. Killed.

The aircraft was built in 1973 and had been previously registered as LN-FOE. It was first registered in the UK on 13th February 1987.
