Mustang at Clifton Airfield.
On the 12th of October 1942 this aircraft overshot its landing at Clifton airfield, it crashed into Mustang
AG596 that was parked nearby. Both aircraft sustained Cat B/FA damage. Why this aircraft was at Clifton is not known.

The aircraft was built to purchase contract 15471 by North American at Inglewood,Dallas and shipped to the UK arriving May 1942.
After assembly and testing it was issued to 169 Sqdn at Doncaster on an unspecified date. It suffered this Cat.B/FA damage
at Clifton 12th October 1942 and was dismantled and repaired in works. After repair it was issued to 516 Sqdn
at Dundonald which formed on 28th April 1943. It then transferred to 309 Sqdn at Snailwell on an unspecified date and served
with them until February 1944 when the aircraft was placed in MU storage at 22 MU Silloth. It was written off suffering Cat.E2/FA damage
at Silloth on 13th February 1945; when it was being taken for a test flight the engine cut on take off and the
aircraft crashed into the overshoot area.
