Vega-Gull at Scarborough Racecourse.

At dusk on the 11th of January 1937 a Vega-Gull force landed on the old Racecourse at Scarborough, the aircraft had circled the area for some time trying to find a place to land, shortly after 16.00hrs a landing was made without real incident. The pilot was uninjured and finished his journey to Leeming Bar by taxi. He stated that the landing was made as it was getting dark and he had no navigation lights on board to fly at night. The aircraft remained in the field until at least the next afternoon.

The Scarborough newspaper give the incident a write-up but appear to misquote the aircrafts registration, they state it was G-AEKO and as being a Vega-Gull. The problem being G-AEKO was a BAC Super Drone registered on 28th July 1936! The correct aircraft and registration was G-AEKD which was a Vega-Gull and this was also registered to the known pilot .

Pilot - Lt Patrick Randolph, of Dorset, ok.

The aircraft was written off in a crash on 12th October 1937 whilst landing at Sanganer Aerodrome, Jaipur, having flown from Bombay. The pilot, Lt Randolph was killed and his passenger, Peter Q Reiss, was injured.
