Gipsy Moth at Scarborough Racecouse.
Gipsy Moth G-ABJC is shown towards the back left of the photograph.
On the 7th of July 1932 this aircraft was taking part in Sir Alan Cobhams Flying Circus's visit to Scarborough.
This aircraft landed at Scarborough, probably on the race course, to check on repairs to Handley Page W.10 G-EBMR which
had crashed some time
previously in the day but it rolled forwards on landing and collided with an obstacle damaging its propellor. A new
one was fitted later that day and the aircraft and pilot flew out again.
The aircraft was built by The De Havilland Aircraft Co Ltd at Stag Lane and first registered to them in March 1931. The C of A was ]
issued on 3rd March 1931. It was operated by National Air Days Ltd., believed to have been out of Stag Lane in 1932. It suffered its
Cat. R/FA at Scarborough 7th July 1932 and was returned to service after repair. It was later purchased by Maurice Wilson also of
Stag Lane on 22nd February 1933 and it departed for India on 21st May 1933 where it became registered as VT-AEO to R.H. Cassell
at Moniara, Bihar on 28th December 1933 and the UK registration cancelled in February 1934. This new registration VT-AEO was
cancelled on 7th May 1942.
