This photograph of a sister of the aircraft which crashed near Robin Hoods Bay, was taken at RNAS Redcar.
My thanks to Mr J Rudland for it.
On the 25th of July 1915 made a forced landing near Robin Hoods Bay after an engine failure, the landing was not too sucessful,
the aircraft overturned but the pilot survived the crash. The aircraft was later repaired.
The aircraft was purchased from Aeroplanes Caudron, Lyon, France and after acceptance in the UK was delivered to RNAS Redcar in July 1915.
There is no indication of where repair was carried out following its mishap detailed above but it was to be based at RNAS Scarborough
on 28th August 1915, it was probably repaired there. It was tested on 8th September 1915. It returned to RNAS Redcar on 30th January 1916
before suffering a Cat W/FA on 17th March 1916 and was then deleted from charge on 21st March 1916.
Pilot - FSL A J Jacob RNAS, ok.
This photograph appeared in an album for sale on Ebay in 2008 and shows the aircraft in situ close to Robin Hoods Bay. A
building is just visable towards the top right side of the photograph. My thanks to Mr Ben Wedgewood for his help in researching this incident and for
the copy of the photograph.
