Hudson at Quarry Farm, Ingleby Barwick.

On the 18th of December 1941 the crew of this aircraft were undertaking a training flight. The aircraft stalled on take off and crashed into the ground at Quarry Farm, Ingleby Barwick. Along with the five airmen, four civilians in the house also were killed, two other children escaped. The pilot's fiancee is reported to have offered to adopt the surviving children. The aircraft was written off. The aircraft had been purchased directly from Lockheed-Vega at Burbank, California by the British Purchasing Commission. After delivery to the UK in August 1941 and acceptance at MU it was issued directly to 6(C)OTU at an at present unspecified date.

The area of the crash at Quarry Farm has now been built over with housing.
