On the 16th of August 1941 the pilot of this Hurricane was on a training flight from Usworth. For unknown reasons
it crash-landed at Thornaby with its undercarriage retracted ( or failed).
The aircraft was later repaired, Cat A/FA damage sustained.
The aircraft was built to contract B62305/39 by Hawker Ltd at Langley & Brooklands. After delivery to MU for acceptance
it was issued
to 253 Sqdn at Kenley in December 1940. When they moved to Leconfield in January 1941 it was transferred to 303 Sqdn also at
Leconfield, it then went to 71 Sqdn at Kirton in Lindsey where it was coded XR-J before ending up at 55 OTU in May 1941.
After the minor mishap above it was repaired and returned to service only to suffer a final Cat E2/FA when it crashed
into highground near Houghton le Spring on an as yet unknown date.
Pilot - F/O Baudoux, ok.
