On the On the 28th June 1940 the crew of this Whitley took off for Ops to industrial targets in Frankfurt. On their return
they became lost and strayed north over Newcastle upon Tyne. They were fired on by A.A. batteries sustaining minor damage.
The crew then set a new course but were then attacked by Spitfire and Blenheim nightfighters in Middlesbrough area. No damage as such was
sustained but the pilot made a forced landing at Thornaby. Cat R/FB damage was sustained, it was repaired at Thornaby.

The aircraft was built to contract 75147/38 by Armstrong Whitworth at Baginton and delivered to 58 Sqdn in April 1940.
Following repair from this incident it was again damaged, Cat R(b) on 9th September 1940. Repair this time took longer, it was then
issued to 42 OTU. After becoming time expired it survived until being struck off charge on 19th April 1945.
