On the 14th of July 1939 this aircraft was on a flight from Driffield when it suffered an engine failure, the pilot
ordered his three crew to bail out
which they did without problem. He then tried to force land the aircraft to belly land the plane near Thornaby but hit
a pylon and crashed. The aircraft was dismantled on site and removed by road to works for repair. Cat R/FA damage being sustained.
The aircraft was built to contract 522438/36 by Armstrong Whitworth at Baginton and delivered to 77 Sqdn on 24th January 1939.
Following this incident above it was delivered to Airwork for repair on 5th September 1939. It spent a year with them before
being issued to 9 MU on 4th September 1940. Once accepted and fitted out it was transferred to 10 BGS on 2nd October 1940, it was then
transferred to 8 AGS on 31st February 1941. It was written off in a Cat W/FA accident on 18th December 1941 and struck off charge
on 24th December 1941.
