On the 16th of September 1939
this aircraft was forced to make a landing at Redcar Racecourse for reasons unknown as yet, the aircraft was not damaged
at all and it is thought that it took off again at a later date from the racecourse. (Cat U damage was reported).
The aircraft was built to contract 497339/36 by A.V. Roe Ltd at Woodford and delivered to 224 Sqdn on 10th July 1937.
It was returned to A.V. Roe Ltd for modifications on 5th August 1938 and returned to 224 Sqdn on 2nd September 1938.
It was transferred to 220 Sqdn on 27th June 1939. Following this landing it returned to its unit and was damaged three
days later at Thornaby, Cat R/FA damage being sustained. It was repaired and returned to service and transferred to
S of GR on 14th November 1939. It was destroyed on the ground during evacuation of Guernsey on 5th July 1940.
