Audax at Thornaby Airfield.

On the 19th of May 1937 this Audax landed heavily at Thornaby, the undercarriage collapsed. Cat R/FA damage being sustained.

The aircraft was built to contract 389427/35 by A.V. Roe Ltd at Chadderton and delivered to 9 FTS on the 30th June 1936. Following repair after the mishap detailed above it was repaired and returned to servive only to suffer a further Cat R/FA on the 25th October 1940. The wreckage was taken to 30 MU on the 25th November 1940 for assessment, where it was struck off charge on the 6th December 1940.

F/LT John Fordham was killed on 5th March 1941, he was serving with 247 Sqdn at the time of his death. He was 24 years old and is buried in Brookwood Military Cemetery.
