Warwick at Thornaby Airfield.

On the 29th of May 1946 this aircraft made a landing on the shorter runway at Thornaby, the aircrafts brakes failed to slow it down sufficiently enough to stop it in the overshoot area. The pilot raised the undercarriage to stop it crashing down a ravine beyind this area. The aircraft sustained damage serious enough to deem it beyond economic repair, Cat E2/FA damage reported.

The aircraft was built to contract ACFT/494 by Vickers Armstrongs Ltd at Weybridge. It was delivered to the RAF in mid 1944 but was not issued to a unit until November 1944 when it was taken on charge by 279 Sqdn at Thornaby. At an as yet unknown date the aircraft was transferred to 281 Sqdn at Limavady, later moving with them to Ballykelly. It transferred to 280 Sqdn at Langham October 1945 moving with the unit to Thornaby in January 1946.
