On the 7th of September 1941
this aircraft took off from Thornaby at 19.30hrs for a Blocking Patrol to cover Convoy EC70.
On its return it overshot its landing and at 22.45hrs it crashed into Stainsby Beck valley beyond the E-W runway.
All four airmen were injured, one so serious that he died during the night. The aircraft suffered cat E2/FA damage.
The aircraft was built by Lockheed-Vega at Lockheed at Burbank, California and purchased without contract by the British
Purchasing Commission. It was shipped to UK and after acceptance at MU was issued to 608 Sqdn in May 1941.
