Caudron GIII OR M.F. Longhorn at Redcar.

This aircraft was built by Britsih Caudron Co Ltd at Hendon. It was delivered to RNS AAP Hendon on the 24th of May 1916 where it was tested and accepted on the 26th of May 1916. It was taken apart and transported by rail up to Redcar on the 11th of July 1917. Following re-erection and testing there, it was accepted on the 2nd of August 1916.

On the 23rd of August 1916 this aircraft's engine failed, the pilot attempted a force-landing but the aircraft was damaged in the landing. Cat R/FA damage being sustained. The aircraft was also involved in three other mishaps at Redcar, a Cat R/FA on the 24th of October 1916, another Cat R/FA on the 11th of December 1916 and finally a more serious Cat W/FA on the 21st of January 1917. It was then deleted from stock as of the 31st of January 1917.

F/Lt Sands lost his life on 22nd March 1918 serving with 3 Sqdn RNAS, he is commemerated on the Arras Flying Services Memorial. He was 23 years old.
