Curtiss JN3 at Redcar.

On the 15th of March 1917 this aircraft crashed on landing at Redcar damaging it enough for it to be written off, Cat W/FA damage being given. It was deleted from stock on the 3rd of April 1917 as beyond economic repair.

The aircraft was built by Curtiss in Toronto, Canada, shipped to UK and delivered to AAP Hendon on 15th November 1915. It was assembled, tested, accepted there and then was immediately transferred to RNAS Flying School Chingford the same day. On the 20th of March 1916 it was sent to the Fairey works for repair and conversion to a JN3 (improved) and then returned to AAP Hendon on the 18th of August 1916 where it sat until it was again tested accepted on the 15th of October 1916. Soon after, on the 2nd of November 1916 it was transferred up to RNAS Redcar, but suffered a Cat R/FA mishap on route on the 3rd of November at Sledmere (pilot unknown). After repair it was re-issued to RNAS Scarborough where it arrived on the 4th of November 1916 and after a brief stay there was transferred up to Redcar on the 4th of November 1916. After an accident in November 1916 it was repaired and returned to service with Redcar's Flying School before being finally destroyed in the crash above.
