Curtiss Jenny at Redcar.

This aircraft was built by Curtiss in Toronto. It was the dual control prototype of this type of aircraft which first flew at Long Branch, Toronto on 14th of July 1915. It was dismantled, packed and shipped to the UK where it arrived at AAP Hendon for erection on the 20th of October 1915. It was then transferred to RNAS Chingford on the 3rd of November 1915 where it served for a short period before being sent to Fairey's for repair and conversion to a JN3 (Improved) variant on the 20th of March 1916. On the 28th of August 1916 it found itself back at Hendon before being transferred up to RNAS Redcar on the 11th of November 1916. During the delivery flight it crashed at Sleaford (with pilot FSL F P Reeves RNAS), it was repaired on site and continued the flight the next day via RNAS Killingholme. And arrived at Redcar where it began service with the Flying School.

On the 8th of December 1916 this aircraft was on a training flight when it skidded on soft earth as it landed at Redcar breaking the undercarriage and propeller. Cat R/FA damage was sustained, the pilot escaped injury. It was repaired and returned to service. Following another more serious accident on the 7th of September 1917 it was written off and deleted from stock on the 15th of September 1917 as beyond economic repair.
