Bristol Scout D at Redcar.

On the 19th of August 1916 this aircraft was wrecked following a force-landing at Redcar, due to engine failure. Cat W/FA damage was sustained. The aircraft had been damaged in February 1916 at Redcar but had been repaired and returned to the Unit. Following this accident in August 1916 it was then deemed beyond economic repair and deleted from stock on the 29th August 1916. It had been made by Bristol at Filton and delivered to Redcar on the 19th of December 1915.

Cpt Mellings RAF was sadly killed on the 22nd of July 1918, by which time he was the hold of the DSC and Bar, DFC and Military Cross and Dipoloma (Greece). He was serving with 210 Sqdn and is buried at Ramscappelle Road Military Cemetery, Belgium. He was still only 18 years old, almost two years after his mishap at Redcar. He was credited with 15 Victories when he died.
