Avro 504 at Redcar.

Avro 504 2930 after its accident at Redcar.

On the 21st of November 1916 this aircraft crashed on landing at Redcar, the undercarriage collapsed damaging the propeller, engine and bottom wings. The damage being enough to cause it to be written off. The aircraft had been built by Saunders Ltd for the RFCand was transferred to the RNAS on the 11th of May 1916, the date it arrived at Redcar. On the 14th of July 1916 it was fitted with the fin of Avro 504 aircraft 3307 for an unknown reason (see above photograph). It was assessed and deleted as beyond economic repair on the 19th of January 1917.

F/Lt Black died on the 12th of October 1917 serving with 9th Sqdn, RNAS. He is buried at Larchwood Cemetery, Belgium. He was 19 years old.
