On the 17th of July 1956 the pilot of this aircraft was forced to eject whilst over the North Sea of Filey Brigg after the engine cut out and a fire warning light activated. Just prior to ejecting the pilot made a radio call to state his rough position and that he was baling out at 35,000 feet. The aircraft was flying in fog over Filey area and visablity was described as very bad. The pilots life jacket was fitted with a new device, a radio tracking aid nicknamed "SARAH". It would become the first case where this aid saved the life of an airman. A full scale search was put into force, an ASR Sycamore helicopter of 275 Sqdn based at Thornaby was called out as was an ASR launch from Bridlington, lifeboats from Filey, Scarborough and Bridlington and local fishing vessels also helped in the search. Within forty minutes of sending his radio distress the pilot was located using the SARAH radio aid and was winched up by the helicopters crew and brought ashore. No trace of the aircraft was found.
