On the 11th of December 1952 this aircraft collided with another Meteor of the same Squadron, WH473, whilst they were carrying out a practice interception at night. Both aircraft crashed into the sea killing both pilots. The cause of the collision was not established, the bodies of both pilots are still believed to be missing.

Pilot - F/Lt Barry Kneath RAF DFC (144636), aged 31, of Broomhall, Sheffield. Missing. He was born on 7th February 1921.

The DFC award is yet to be researched.
