Dornier off Scarborough.
On the 14th of July 1943 a dog fight took place over the North Bay of Scarborough, bombs were jettisoned and a short time later an aircraft was seen to have crashed into the sea.
Bill Normans "Broken Eagles" has a full account of this incident, withouut wishing to copy his work and research, the aircraft was shot down by War Off D W Wray in a Beaufighter from 604 Sqdn, Scorton. It was seen to crash into the sea 10 miles off Scarborough. All were believed killed although no bodies were ever recovered.
