Whitley off Scarborough.

On the 12th of Feb 1941 the Scarborough lifeboat searched for a British bomber thought to have gone down in the sea off Scarborough, it was very foggy. Nothing was found.

Whitley P4974 was unable to locate base on return from Ops to Bremen, out of fuel the aircraft was abandoned and the aircraft crashed into the North Sea, one being injured. I think this is the aircraft which relates to the ARP report.

Pilot - Sgt Ian H Fenton RAFVR. He was lost two weeks later when his (and Clark and Carter's) aircraft crashed in the North Sea off the Durham coast.
