Unknown off Scarborough.

On the 24th of September 1940 a dog fight took place in the Scarborough area, some time afterwards the Scarborough lifeboat was called out and rescued some airmen, of which some were "Ours".

Airmen? - unknown.

This incident features in a dairy of a ARP Warden, as a result I have no more details as yet.

On this date Whitley P5046 was ditched in the North Sea making for its Yorkshire base. They may relate to the ARP report. P/O A W Dunn DFC and crew ditched some 80 miles of the East Coast, it would be four days later until the survivors were picked up by the Royal Navy, only Sgt G H Riley survived the ordeal. P/O Dunn, Sgt D A Gibbons and Sgt B L Savill DFM and Sgt D B Allen did not survive although one was alive when rescued he died soon after.
