Wellington off Flamborough Head

On the 22nd of September 1943 the crew of this aircraft set out from East Moor, Yorkshire at 19.02hrs on Ops to bomb Hannover. On their return the aircraft ran low on fuel some 60 miles off Flamborough Head and at 00.45hrs on the 23rd September the pilot ditched the aircraft in the North Sea. Three of the crew managed to be picked up by a passing naval vessle, sadly two did not survived the ditching and their bodies were never found. The survivors found their way back to Yorkshire.
