Audax off Redcar.
On the 4th of December 1936 this aircraft stalled whilst flying in a rainstorm during a night navigation exercise,
it crashed into the sea off Redcar. The pilot was killed in the accident.
A number of sea searches were carried out to try and locate the pilots body, it would be almost two months later, on
the 27th of January 1937 when his body was washed ashore.
Pilot - A P/O Hugh O'Neil RAF, of the Irish Free State. Killed.
The aircraft was built by A V Roe and taken on charge by 9 FTS in June 1936.
