Sopwith Camel off Marske.

On an unknown date in mid 1918 the pilot of this aircraft was on a flight over the North Sea when the engine failed. The pilot ditched the aircraft 80 yards from the Beach at Marske.

Pilot - 2nd Lt W E Johns, ok.

The very next day after this incident this pilot crashed an aircraft into sna dunes on the beach at Marske again after engine failure. The following day he would also crash another aircraft into a house at Marske again after engine failure. All detailed on the "North Of" section to this website.


Captain Johns, as he would become, was later famous for his Biggles books.
