Junkers Ju88 off Warrenby.

On the 28th of October 1940 this aircraft was one of a number of enemy aircraft attacking the Tees area. The aircraft were engaged by Anti-Aircraft guns in the Tees district, one of these batteries hit one of the raiders. It was seen to crash just off shore between South Gare and Warrenby and exploded on impact with the sea. The blast shattered windows in the Warrenby District. The bodies of the four airmen were never recovered. Bill Norman reports that Luftwaffe Returns show this aircraft was attacking the Humber Estuary, but there seems no doubt that it was this aircraft that was shot down off Warrenby.
