On the 16th of April 1941 the pilot of this aircraft was on a training flight when he became lost in cloud. He opted to bale out and the aircraft then crashed by the side of a railway line near Addingham, afew miles to the west of Ilkley. The pilot survived. Details of this incident are brief at the moment and no AM Form 1180 has been traced. The location is often refered to as being on Ilkley Moor with Air Britain's Spitfire book giving the location as "Tockstones" (but the more probable location is the Buckstones on Ilkley Moor). It is not yet known why there is confusion with the crash location. Research done by Mr Andy Scull some years ago confirmed the location although the crash site was later covered over by the A65 road in the 1960s.
Pilot - Name unknown, ok.
