On the 3rd of December 1943 the crew of this aircraft were undertaking an early morning weather reconnaissance flight when the aircraft went missing. Two weeks later it was found crashed and burnt out on West Bolton Moor, north of Askrigg, the two airmen had been killed in the impact. It would be the Units only fatal loss during the War.

I visited the site in September 2006, scattered remains are still to be found including part of a fuel tank
The aircrafts pedals were at the site until the mid 1980s until they were recovered, they contained the distinctive makers "P&P" logo (Photo Mr N. Roberts).
