On the 29th of December 1941 this Whitley was force landed in a field near Embsay at Intake Farm after suffering engine failure. The crew were undertaking a night time cross country training flight and are not thought to have been injured. No further details are known as yet. The aircraft was taken apart and removed, it later was rebuilt and flew again.

I have yet to locate the crash site but it is thought to be on land close to the farm shown in this photograph.
