On the 23rd of February 1942 this aircraft was being either being flown from or to 12 MU at RAF Kirkbride when it ran out of fuel in transit. The pilot force-landed the aircraft on high ground to the north of Grassington near High Garnshaw House. Brian Lunn reports in his book on aircraft crashes in Wharfedale that the aircraft was not damaged and after some rocks were removed, the aircraft refueled another pilot flew the aircraft out. A local recounted to Mr Lunn that this was S/Ldr Charles "Pick" Pickard, whether this was the case is yet to be determined. Nothing more is known.
