In the morning of the 10th of February 1943 the pilot of this aircraft was undertaking a Army Co-operation exercise over the Stainmore area. The aircraft was flying in thick cloud when it banked and cartwheeled across the moor killing the pilot instantly at around 13.30hrs. The wreckage was located later in the day and was scattered over half a mile.

Nick Roberts visit to the site in 1972.
Much of the wreckage was gathered together in a pit following the crash, these remains were rediscovered in the 1970s. In 1972
Nick Roberts visited the crash site with family members and recovered a propeller and the instrument panel (minus instruments). In
the mid-1980's a large wing section and the aircrafts Allison engine were recovered and are now on display at the North East
Aircraft Museum in Sunderland.
The large wing section, shortly after this photograph being taken and the wing being recovered someone reportedly hacked off
the wing-tip with an axe (photo Mr Jim Rutland).

I have yet to visit the crash site.
