On the 2nd of September 1968 the pilot of this aircraft was making a landing on a rather wet private strip in Harwood Dale towards the eastern side of the North Yorkshire Moors. As he approached it became apparant that an obsticle was on the grass strip, the aircraft touched down past this but with only a 250 yard area in which to come to a halt. A further 200 yards were available but this meant a turn of 30 degrees on landing. Due to the wet grass this turn was unable to be made, he also could not stop the aircraft with his brakes by the end of the 250 yard stretch and as a result it over-ran into a ditch damaging it substantially, although he escaped without injury.
The aircraft was built by the Piper Aircraft Corporation and first registered in the USA in 1966 as N9027P. It was purchased by a UK owner (at present not known) and allocated the serial G-AVKH but this was not taken up and was reallocated G-AVGA on 31st January 1967. It suffered its Cat. 3/FA accident at Harewood Dale on 2nd September 1968 and repaired (at a currently unknown location). The aircraft is still flying today.
Pilot - name unknown. Ok.
