This Anson crashed whilst on a training flight on the 9th of August 1943, the aircraft crashed on the same day as the Green Gable Anson and was from the same unit, there were also other losses on this same date else where in the Lake District. It was a bad day for the Unit who sadly lost a number of airmen. The aircraft flew into cloud and was not flying high enough when the crew become lost. The aircraft struck the ground some distance from the top of Scafell. It was not found until the 11th of August 1943

Will Lund and myself located some wreckage from this aircraft in May 2003. The aircraft struck the rock above that shown towards the centre of the photo above, peices have fallen from the main site and it was these peices that we located on my first trip to the site. After this webpage was created I then learned that more wreckage existed in the area of impact, myself, Will Lund returned to the area in May 2007 with Sam Beck, making his debut Lake District outing with me ! The aircraft crashed within feet of a main path up to the summit of Scafell and wreckage is easily visable from this path.

A generator suppresion unit from the generator circuit of the aircraft, it stops the generator causing interferance to the radio transmitter-receiver. My thanks to Mr Jim Rutland for telling me what it is despite its battered condition.
