On the 13th of June 1945 this aircraft had set out from the UK with the intension of flying home to the USA after the War. Whilst over Scotland the aircraft clipped the top of Slioch, a mountian near Gairloch, at the north west side of the country. It was thought that the pilot was then attempting to ditch the aircraft in the sea off Gairloch when the aircraft flew into high ground on Sidhean Mor, all 15 personel on board were killed in the crash. The crash report did not make any firm conclusions as to the reasons for the crash but suggested an uncontrollable engine fire could have been the cause of the crash. It suggests that the crew were trying to force land, struck the ground and the aircraft blew up.

I located the site in August 2005, the site is well known in the area, a sizeable amount of the aircraft remains at the site, at least two engines are visable in a loch. A memorial is present at the site.
